The REACH Lab at CU-Boulder

The Reach Lab supports early-career scientists through better understanding of the challenges they face in their research and how they develop (+ how we can nurture) resilience.

They study how students build resilience when faced with difficult tasks, collaborate with diverse communities in addressing socio-scientific issues, and and pose biologically and socially tractable solutions to ecological problems.

Their goal is to understand and promote the skills needed for success in biological science careers, to help build the next generation of ecological problem solvers.

We first worked with Dr. Lisa Corwin YEARS AGO on the Boulder Apple Tree Project brand and website, so it was exciting to collaborate again on her new lab website. I love when we get to work with clients across research endeavors and watch their careers and interests expand!

Our goal with this project was to help capture Lisa’s groundbreaking approach to understanding biology education and how we can nurture the next generation of scientists. We wanted to capture their spirit and values, and share some insight into how they conduct trans-disciplinary research. As Lisa explains,

“My lab website felt stale and dated. I wanted something fun and exciting to interact with! Something that I wanted to update regularly! Working with Impact Media Lab was like seeing all of the feelings I have about my lab come to life. I never imagined that the warmth, excitement, and hope that I feel when I think about my work could come through so clearly on a website!”

caring, collaborative, nurturing

The REACH Lab is all about empowering the next generation of ecological problem solvers, and we wanted that caring and collaborative spirit to come through. While artistic and warm, the brand was also designed to feel scientifically rigorous and academic. This is serious science, conducted in a kind, collaborative, and nurturing research environment.

The REACH Lab logo celebrates the core values of the team. As a classically trained botanist, Dr. Lisa Corwin entered the biological sciences through her love for plants and natural systems. The shape of the leaves and stem communicate ideas of striving, reaching, and growth. The plant has a hand drawn quality that gives a nod to the personal, human-driven approach that the REACH Lab takes in their work.
